What is Usability?
There are many definitions for Usability. We believe the most accurate definition is "ease of use", whether of a web page or any multi-channel application with an interface that interacts with users.
Formal definitions
The importance of Usability
|
Usability guidelines for web pages simply indicate that if customers can’t find the product, they won’t buy it. Jakob Nielsen, Designing Web Usability
|
All evidence demonstrates that web pages or applications that are easier to use are differentiated from the competition: they sell more, increase customer loyalty, reinforce visits and reinforce brand reputation.
The price of Usability
All these benefits involve a cost reduction and general optimisation of production costs, as well as an increase in the productivity of e-commerce web sites. Usability allows faster task accomplishment and reduces lost time.
For developers and manufacturers, the advantages of creating usable products far outweigh the costs. The rule of thumb: every dollar invested in ease of use returns $10 to $100. (IBM UCD)
|
A real case revealed that after IBM redesigned its web site, paying special attention to Usability, web site sales increased by 400%. (InfoWorld, 1999).
